ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND:
In Onorata, Jake was born into the Monacello family, his father being a member, his mother being a Native American. He looks Native American, himself, taking after his mother's tribal bloodline, being an impressive six-foot-six of nearly solid muscle. Currently, he is twenty-two, having just come home from "college" in America.

Truly, in order to combat the recent strength of the AMC, Jake was sent to train -- and get a little "genetic treat" -- at a Monacello research laboratory. There he was genetically altered as an Anti-AMC weapon, into something resembling the "werewolf" of legend. His genetics were spliced with those of quite a number of different things, and he gained the ability to shape-shift. That is to say, his genetics were tinkered with, and he was afforded the ability to shape-shift into an abnormally large wolf at will. This strange genetic mutation causes a few other things with Jake's person, such as a bizarrely high resting body temperature -- 108 - 110 degrees Fahrenheit -- additional human-form strength, an extremely keen sense of smell, and a faster recovery speed. If he becomes too emotionally charged, however, he cannot control his changing, and generally becomes a wolf.

Another strange thing, however, is how his sense of smell reacts to vampires -- specifically, those genetically mutated in the fashion as the Cullens, who he was designed by Monacello to combat, though not even he specifically knows that. When a vampire is within scent, it's extremely obvious, as they smell very, very badly to him. And to those vampires, his mutation smells just as rank. A strange, and unfortunate, giveaway. Also, as a wolf, he's not a normal-sized wolf. He's roughly the same size as a six-foot-tall human, and burly. This gives him less maneuverability than the genetically mutated "vampires" he's built to fight, but far more pure brawn. Also, his own muscle-mass adds to the muscle-mass of the wolf that he becomes.

As mentioned earlier, Jake was born Monacello, and raised Monacello. He reports directly to Gin (this was discussed with tussah) in the current game, and basically does Anti-AMC business (though he was assigned to Gin while he was "at college," and thus does not know the man well). His hatred, however, of the AMC is very, very real. When he was twelve, he did a "trial run," so to speak, with a group of Monacello. It was their job to show him the ropes -- his father was a great guy, after all, may he rest in peace, and the kid showed promise -- while still keeping him safe; he was twelve, after all. Unfortunately, the AMC had caught wind of this, and sent their semi-recently genetically engineered weapon, Jasper (I spoke to _tehriah and snuzzie about this), to take care of the problem. Because of the sheer number of combatants, Jasper did not manage to kill Jake, though it was a close thing. He escaped, with one of the Monacello "showing him the ropes," but barely, and he saw a number of his comrades die. It was a bad first run, and Jake was not likely to forget it any time soon. His hatred of the AMC is real.

Jake spent his four years in "college" adjusting to this change to his body -- definitely not something easily accepted -- and being trained to be the best Anti-AMC weapon the Monacello could develop. (Physically, anyway.) He does not, however, like weapons, and does not use them, though he does carry a handgun to appease his superiors (loaded with blanks). His biggest challenge, however, was to figure out how to control his new "animal instincts," and he still doesn't have a complete grip on them. He can change at will, but strong emotional surges leave him spending all his mental faculties trying not to change. Also, he can be overwhelmed with extremely potent smells, and he's sensitive to high-pitched noises too close to his ears. His body temperature, too, gives him away as "not-quite-normal," being radically higher than a normal human's. For all intents and purposes, however, he is in fact human, ages like a human, and functions like a human (needing, perhaps, a bit more to eat).

Being from Reggio Calabria originally, and living in a non-Monacello area, to keep up appearances, Jake met Bella Swan (I spoke with pompeyhollow about this) while she was visiting her father for the summer. He was a few years older than her, but a nice kid, and they made friends over the years, meeting every summer until Bella's fourteenth, Jake's eighteenth, when he "went away to college." Jake's feelings towards Bella were mostly undefined when he left for college, outside of a slight adoration, and perhaps big-brothery feelings? Naturally, now that he's back to Reggio Calabria, and seeing that Bella lives there full-time, he'll be looking her up. They got into trouble as kids, but it was mainly fun. Jake considers Bella his best friend, despite how little they saw of one another, in regard to his feeling completely at peace while he's spending time with her. Bella does not know Jake (or his family) are/were affiliated with the mafia. Jasper does, but it is unlikely that Bella and he would have made the connection (this was also discussed with Suri). The name "Black" is not openly associated with Monacello, as it is Jake's mother's last name, not his father's.

The age thing: in the books, Jake is sixteen technically, but physically fully mature, with the hurried mentality of someone who's supposed to be sixteen, but isn't. In Onorata, I have chosen to make him older for two very pertinent reasons: first, I don't think Gin would use him for this particular purpose at the age of sixteen, and second, having him disappear for four years for anything but college would be suspicious, and they wouldn't want to be suspicious in any manner. They want this to be a "surprise," of sorts. If this isn't all right, I'll drop him back to sixteen, though it isn't physically accurate, and perhaps not even completely mentally accurate, either.
